During term three we used various materials to create art works using collage and paint. we used textures templates to print with paint and stamps to see what kinds of effects we could make, We then created a frame to place our painting in. We used a variety of natural and recycled materials to make our frames. We think the textured frames looked beautiful against our paintings. The final artworks were bright colourful with lots of interesting patterns and textures.
During term three we explored shape texture and colour as part of our CBL big idea of curiosity. We used paint and different tools to apply the paint so we could explore the kinds of textures and effects we could create. We also learnt about positive and negative shapes and learnt to cut out shapes with scissors. Using our new skills we created these amazing abstract mixed media collages. We combined our paintings and our shape cut outs to create them. It was interesting to see what kinds of paint effects we could create.
Over the last couple of weeks, Prep B has been noticing that the days are becoming warmer. Because of this, we have been loving getting outdoors to eat our lunch and listen to a book or chat with our friends. Although we try to sit in the shade, we want to be Sun Smart in every way we can.
Please remember that as we are a Sun Smart school, when we come back in Term 4 after the school holidays, it is compulsory to wear a school hat during play breaks.
Last week was Book Week and we love reading in Prep B so it was so much fun to dress up as our favourite book characters! It was so much fun getting to put on a parade to show off our own costumes and seeing what the other Prep classes were wearing too. We even got to see Miss McCurry act like her Book Week character, Little Miss Somersault because she did a somersault.
We also did some writing pieces about Book Week, explaining who we dressed up as and why we wanted to come dressed as them.
During our first year of Art at Aitken Creek Primary School we have been creating some creative pictures using a variety of techniques and materials. We have learnt to work as a class community to make big class artworks and share materials in the art room. It has been so much fun and we think our work is beautiful. We would like to share some of our colourful art works with you and we hope you enjoy them. Keep watching the blog to see what else we make this year.
Our Big Idea this term is Curiosity, so far we have been exploring the types of materials needed for something to work. It was great to work with our grade 6 Buddies who helped us make rafts for Gingerbread men and had lots of fun testing whether or not our creations floated. We worked on our teamwork skills and showed how our curiosity can help us to create a raft that floats.
Here are some of our creations…
Last Wednesday, we celebrated our 100th day at school! The day was so much fun and we all had such a great day! We are so proud of what we have achieved this year and also reflected on how far we have come.
“I remember… I used to be so scared to come to school but now I love coming everyday!” – Saffron
“I can count!” – Kaleb
“My writing is better because I practice!” – Mansirt
“I am proud of our school family!” – Arya
We had lots of fun making party hats, 100 Days necklaces (where we had to count 100 fruit loops to make a necklace), thought about what it would be like to be 100 years old and got certificates for being 100 days smarter!
Prep B and Prep F had the opportunity to share their CBL solutions with each other. The children had a wonderful opportunity to practice their speaking and listening skills as well as talking about the process they followed to evaluate the success of their solutions.
The students were in group of 4 to share their learning. Prep F students talked about how they made the grass heads and read aloud the procedural text they wrote to explain the steps and materials needed to create their grass head.
Prep B students talked about the bird bath they put in the yard and how it has helped the local birds to get fresh and clean water to help them survive.
This term during Health and Physical Education we have been learning and practising our throwing techniques. During the last few weeks of PE we have focused on overarm throwing by making Mr/Miss T, Mr/Miss Strong and Mr/Miss Throw shapes with our body to throw an object. We are having so much fun learning new games and skills!
Thanks for reading,
On Thursday this week, we were lucky enough to meet Lisa from Rookeepers and she definitely made the weeks of waiting worth it! To further support our inquiry into survival and living/nonliving things, we met a lot of different animals and were able to touch and hear all about each of them!
Marley the dingo was a class favourite although we were all very brave and touched the other animals too, including Peter the python.
