During the beginning of Term 4, we’ve been learning how to say general shapes in Spanish to compliment the same learning we’ve been doing in our classrooms. This has proven to be an exciting test for us since the Spanish we are learning is quite challenging. Our learning has been aided by popular verbal games that we enjoy such as ‘pass-the-flashcard’ and ‘Spanish whispers’. We look forward to the rest of Term 4 in which we’ll also be learning various manners in Spanish and re-visiting numbers once again.
‘I’ve enjoyed learning with flashcards and doing Spanish whispers’ – Bisma (Prep D)
‘We’ve been learning how to talk Spanish and we’ve been doing the colours again’ – Hargun (Prep E)
During term three we used various materials to create art works using collage and paint. we used textures templates to print with paint and stamps to see what kinds of effects we could make, We then created a frame to place our painting in. We used a variety of natural and recycled materials to make our frames. We think the textured frames looked beautiful against our paintings. The final artworks were bright colourful with lots of interesting patterns and textures.
During term three we explored shape texture and colour as part of our CBL big idea of curiosity. We used paint and different tools to apply the paint so we could explore the kinds of textures and effects we could create. We also learnt about positive and negative shapes and learnt to cut out shapes with scissors. Using our new skills we created these amazing abstract mixed media collages. We combined our paintings and our shape cut outs to create them. It was interesting to see what kinds of paint effects we could create.
Over the last few weeks in Prep A we have been working really hard on our small moment writing. We have rehearsed, acted out and added detail to an event in out lives.
First we talked about our ideas and really focused on the small moments. We acted out our ideas to help us and then we sketched out the different small moments.
After we sketched out our ideas we wrote our sentences. Then we worked really hard to add as much detail as we could to each small moment to make it more interesting for our readers. We even began to edit our writing and used out iPads to help us spell the words we didn’t know.
Next we will be working on publishing out stories ready for everyone to read at our book launch in week 7 during the Journey of Curiosity showcase.
We hope you can come to see all of our hard work and enjoy reading our amazing small moment stories.
Here is an example of Emma’s writing so far. She has added amazing details and worked so hard to improve her writing.
This term our Big Idea is curiosity and Prep A have been involved in many different provocations to help share what we know and what we want to learn about.
We had a problem that we had to solve as a team. We had to create something to help a lego man cross a body of water. Prep A worked hard in our teams to come up with different ideas and what resources would be the best to make sure the lego man got to the other side safely.
We all had different ideas and made decisions as a team to create amazing items. It was amazing to see the different ideas and ways that everyone used the different materials.
Here are some photo of us with our creations:
We made a boat. It worked great as it floated across easily to the other side.
We made a boat. It only worked for a little while because the plate started to break when it got wet.
We made a boat and the straws really helped it float and get to the other side.
We made a boat and it worked great.
Our boat made it across and didn’t break at all.
Prep: In Spanish for Term 3, we Preps have started learning to say a variety of animals in Spanish. We’ve already played a variety of verbal games that help us to remember what we’ve learnt throughout Spanish and also some exercises in our books to help us learn successfully the spelling of the animals. We can’t wait to continue learning to say new animals and also describe their colours in Spanish.
‘I like learning how to say spider in Spanish because it has a letter that isn’t in the English alphabet’ – Valentino (Prep H)
‘I like it when we have Spanish’ – Kierra (Prep D)
This term in Prep A we have been working hard on our investigations and are very proud of what we have achieved. Each group questioned, researched, designed and created amazing things for our investigations.
Our groups this term were:
Under the sea
We worked collaboratively with our groups to allocate jobs and task as well as set goals for each session. We learnt about the importance of feedback as well as making decisions as a team. We are super excited for next term to keep creating amazing things.
In Prep A we have been research and writing information reports about an animal of our choice.
First we used out iPads to research to find out what our animal habitat is and what it eats. Then we looked for an interesting fact about our animals like camels can close their nostrils.
After we researched and gathered all of the information we needed we then wrote a draft of our information report. Then we used our iPads to publish our information reports.
Here are some examples of our amazing information reports.
We hope you enjoy and learning something new.
This term during Health and Physical Education we have been learning and practising our throwing techniques. During the last few weeks of PE we have focused on overarm throwing by making Mr/Miss T, Mr/Miss Strong and Mr/Miss Throw shapes with our body to throw an object. We are having so much fun learning new games and skills!
Thanks for reading,
